My artistic activities help me to explore the social, political and ecological implications of the industrial transformation of materials. I manipulate products, or the waste of products created by the industrial system, which attempts to satisfy all human desires through material comfort. I believe that our desires cannot be met by consumption alone, but also require that we make and do. My meditations often exploit more basic modes of production such as craft, and I prefer to use my hands, or hand-powered tools, to engage these systems of material flow. I enact a laborious transformation of materials, frequently using repetitive motions; sometimes, I work in a trance-like state. I strive for the spiritual redemption of material through ritualized engagement.
